warning bookworms! last time to built your christmas reading list and pick those books set in wintery-fairy kingdoms buried in your tbr.
because after christmas they lose all of their winter charms. imagine reading about snow falling while lazing under coconuts tree. weird combo. unless you live in one of its tropical places where colours always seem saturated. ( in this case, I hate you sincerely ) the temperature drop makes me want to hibernate to drink cinnamon tea in gigantic teacups with a good book as companion*.
I’m sure you too, squid. don’t pretend bookworms don’t get back to their shells as the first snowflakes start to fall. it’s the best weather to snuggle with books.
* if you live where coconuts trees grow, well you want to get some sun ( in small quantities, we are bookworms nonetheless ) while you sip hibiscus ice tea in plastic cups with a good book as companion.
to save them from the tragic fate to be bury again, I’m taking part in the #holidayadventureathon, a ‘ choose-your-own-adventure ‘ readathon, that runs from the 13-24th of december hosted by Jasmine @ Novel Thoughts.
we had to choose a path to follow on this north pole map* to discover to which team we were going to swear allegiance to for the holiday house cup+built our tbr. I did my best to pick christmas/wintery books only, and of these six books, I’m technically rereading only two. I’ll explore between a few chapter as it’s my duty as a bookworm to seek for new adventure!
* how cute+adorable, it is? 😍
I’ll mostly be updating my reading progress on my twitter. follow me, perhaps? 😶 @octopussquirrel oh, and I’d love to see what’s on your own reading christmas list too, so leave a comment below!
let’s see what I’ll be reading for the #holidayadventureathon!
My Holiday AventureAThon TBR!
PRESENTS | READ A BOOK THAT YOU GOT AS A GIFT
sarah, my sister ( hi sarah! /wave/ ), gave me harry potter and the sorcerers’ stone by j.k rowling (illustrate by jim kay) for my 21st birthday along with an expecto patronum mug that has magical abilities. ❤️ I thought it’d be perfect to be cosy on Frankenstein II* with a hot cup of tea this christmas.
* Frankenstein II is my boyfriend. we have a loving relationship. tank you for wondering.
SANTA | READ A BOOK WITH RED ON THE COVER
would it be cheating if I coloured the wintersong rose in red? asking for a friend.
it’s all okay, kraken! messing with you. 😂 don’t colour your books! monster. we have colouring books for that! I spot a tiny touch of red on shiver by maggie stiefvater. it’s there, I swear!
WISH | READ A FAIRYTALE RETELLING
the bear and the nightingale by katherine arden found itself buried last year in my tbr because winter was almost gone at the time I discovered it. but now that it’s snowing again and freezing outside, I can read it! 🙂
COOKIES | READ A BOOK WHILE EATING A FESTIVE FOOD
the window to read these wintery books is quite small as it required biscuits that taste like snow falling and maybe cranberry. so, as it is required, I’m going to bake snowball cookies to eat them throughout ALL the #holidayreadathon!
I’ll share with you, squid! 😉
NAUGHTY | READ A BOOK THAT WAS A COVER BUY
I never buy books solely because they wear pretty covers. they are way too expensive for me to be this shallow. but sometimes, I choose to be a little bit shallow and buy editions simply because they are pretty. I specially bought the UK version of the tales of beedle the bard by j.k rowling for its lovely old blue cover. aesthetical as shell. 😍
JOLLY | READ A BOOK WITH THE WORD ‘ HOLYDAY IN THE TITLE ‘
can I say that let it snow: three holiday romances by john green, maureen johnson and lauren myracle is the only christmas book on my #holidayadventureathon tbr? they are freaking not easy to find. like water in the desert*. I’ll be reading one story every two books because I want to make it last.
* good things I’m writing a christmas book then. 😈
WHAT TEAM I’M IN!?
reindeer or elf? for which team of the holiday house cup I’m going to play? time to unravel the mystery! / drumroll / I’m swearing allegiance to the #holidayelf!
ELF | READ A FANTASY BOOK
what sounds more wintery than goblin king and music!? oh, I don’t know. snow, mistletoe, reindeer? / glower / like the bear and the nightingale, I miss the train for wintersong by s. jae-jones last year. I’m ready this christmas though! I won’t let this two get buried again! 😠
may the holiday mascots or santa claus be with you, and give to your worms the power to read all these books!
WHAT BOOK ARE YOU GOING TO READ THIS CHRISTMAS? ARE YOU TEMPTED TO SPEND CHRISTMAS ONLY AT HOGWARTS? BECAUSE ME, I AM! 🙈 OH, AND ARE YOU DOING THE #HOLIDAYAVENTUREATHON TOO?
